Copyright

Week 9 of Bcm 112, wow time sure flies when it’s corona time. This week we covered Copyright, probably one of the most debated issues in regards to digital media. Before 1710 there was no copyright, if you read a book you really like you could really just republish it and all would be good. Original copyright was meant to last 14 years after publication but now it lasts for 70 years after the author’s death. Seemingly from one extreme to another really but why? Well it’s relatively simple; the publishers of the content want to keep the revenue made by the content with themselves. But it’s all changed with the introduction of digital media, let’s say i make a meme like what’s below. I don’t mean i own copyright over it, under current law memes aren’t considered intellectual property.
